On November 20, 2018, Linda Jean Banwell, born in Oakland January 20, 1947 to Anna and Alva McFadden, lost her fight with cancer.
Linda grew up in El Sobrante and Walnut Creek, attending Walnut Heights Grammar and Walnut Creek Intermediate schools. She graduated from Las Lomas High School in 1964 and has kept in contact with many of her classmates, working on their class reunions.
She was a strong swimmer and in the early 60’s was a member of the Oakland Athens Club synchronized swimming team, earning a gold medal with the team at the Pan American Games in Rio De Janeiro in 1963. She remained active in Synchro for many years as a coach for the Walnut Creek Aquanuts.
Linda went to college at San Jose State and Old Dominion College, receiving her B.A. in 1967.
She was married to Peter Banwell in January, 1966 and they celebrated 52 anniversaries together.Linda is survived by her husband, Pete, her mother, Anna, sisters Robin and DeeDee, daughter Emily Lagrone (Wade) and grandchildren Gus (4) and Attie (1½).
A memorial service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1924 Trinity Avenue in Walnut Creek will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15th. Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Church.
